High-Performance Exterior Coatings Protect Biotech Office Center From 20+ Years of Future Weathering Damage

Sleepy Hollow, New York (12/22/2020) – Home to several high-profile tenants since its construction in the early 1970s, the 1 Rockwood office building now occupied by Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc., recently underwent a complete restoration of its fa?ade using NeverFade? Exterior Restoration Coatings with Kynar Aquatec? from APV Engineered Coatings. The restoration project will help the building resist exterior fading and degradation for at least 20 years.

Preparing the Surface

Stuart Dean Company, a national Certified Applicator of NeverFade? Coating Systems, conducted the five-month restoration of 40,000 square feet of exterior aluminum panels. According to Chris Incorvaia, National Manager of Fa?ade Restoration, Stuart Dean Company, the 20-technician crew started by preparing the surface for coating application.

“The aluminum panels had been previously field-painted with an acrylic polyurethane,” he said. “That previous coating had degraded significantly due to UV exposure and weathering.”

NeverFade? Coatings were an ideal choice for the project, he said, because they can be used on previously painted surfaces. The coatings contain Kynar Aquatec?, a water-based PVDF resin that does not need to be baked, making it ideal for air-dry, field-applied coatings.

“NeverFade? is a premium, weather-resistant coating that can be easily applied to a variety of substrates,” Incorvaia added, noting that the coating system meets the same requirements of factory coatings using American Architectural Manufacturers Association, Publication No. AAMA 2605-13.

Proper surface conditions are crucial to achieving good coating adhesion and long life, so the Stuart Dean team was careful to fully prepare the surface. They started by removing sealants from all joints: metal to metal, metal to glass, and along window perimeters. These sealants were replaced 72 hours after the final topcoat. Next, they washed all surfaces to remove environmental contaminants such as chlorides and nitrates. Finally, they prepared the surface for the new coating by scuffing and sanding it to achieve a 1.0-1.5-mil anchor profile in accordance with NACE surface preparation guidelines.

Smooth Application

Before applying the coating system, the Stuart Dean crew masked windows and adjacent surfaces to protect them. Then, they began the coating application, starting with one coat and 1.00-1.25 mils DFT of APV’s W-1650 Bonding Primer, which was roll-applied.

W-1650 Bonding Primer is a unique chemistry designed to adhere directly to metal and to tough coated surfaces, such as Kynar 500?, siliconized polyester, and powder coatings.

“The advanced, water-based and low-VOC chemistry provides early water resistance, protects against corrosion and applies with a smooth, uniform finish, delivering optimum aesthetics to the coating system,” said Erin Neff, Director of Marketing and Business Development, APV Engineered Coatings.

The primer was followed by 2 coats and 2.00 mils DFT of the NeverFade? Metal Restoration Topcoat, also applied by roller. NeverFade? provides a superior factory-like finish in a field-applied coating. Its advanced formulation is engineered for extreme UV protection, as well as resistance to algae, fungal growth, abrasion, dirt pickup and stains. APV offered a 15-year, transferrable product-and-labor warranty to the building owner. The warranty covers color fading and chalking, guaranteeing that NeverFade? will dramatically outperform other field-applied, high-performance coatings, even in extreme environments.

As it does with all NeverFade? projects, APV custom matched the topcoat in a color selected by the building owner – in this case colonial white.

“A high-performance coating is critical for white exterior surfaces, especially in damp environments like this building,” Neff explained. “When traditional latexes and urethanes break down under harsh UV rays, the paint film degrades, turning chalky, and eventually erodes away. That chalkiness is not always noticeable up against the white surface, but paint is losing its protective qualities. A chalked surface also becomes a food source for mold and mildew growth and makes conditions ripe for dirt collection.”

Throughout the entire coating process, the Stuart Dean crew paid special attention to ambient environmental conditions.

“The building is located on wetlands and is subjected to a high concentration of moisture and precipitation,” Incorvaia said. “To maintain quality control and ensure the long-term performance of the coating system, we diligently measured air temperature, surface temperature, relative humidity and dew point. Coatings were only applied when those conditions fell within APV’s approved parameters.”

The coating crew also operated under strict safety protocols, which were detailed after conducting a job hazard analysis and developing a site-specific safety plan. Crew members were certified in the use of the stationary scaffold and boom lifts from which they accessed the panels. They wore full body harnesses with lanyards fastened to anchor points.

“We had a supervisor onsite during the entire project to ensure all processes and procedures were being followed,” Incorvaia said. “We also inspected all access equipment and personal fall protection gear before each use. Plus, we installed barriers around the work area for pedestrian flow control and safety.”

“Along with quality, Stuart Dean’s attention to safety is one of the reasons we have designated them as a NeverFade? National Certified Applicator,” Neff said. “Only approved or certified status applicators can purchase and install NeverFade? to comply with our warranty program.”

Extended Building Life with Minimal Disruption

The exterior restoration was completed within five months, and the building remained fully occupied during the entire project. Tenant disruption and risk were kept to a minimum, thanks to Stuart Dean’s strict safety protocols and the low-odor, low-VOC NeverFade? coating system.

The protective coating system extended the service life of the aluminum panel system by 20+ years and prevented the panels from having to be replaced, a time-consuming process whose cost was estimated at four to five times the cost of the restoration conducted.

“The 1 Rockwood project is another example of building owners and project specifiers trusting the value, quality and cost-efficient investment of NeverFade? Coatings to sustainably extend the life of their valuable real estate with minimal disruption,” Neff concluded.

Durable Exterior Coating Gets New HQ Building Ready for the Long Haul

Orlando, Fla. (November 17, 2020) — When the Florida Roofing & Sheet Metal Contractors Association (FRSA) designed its new headquarters, they knew it needed to be built with materials that were energy-efficient, code-compliant and long-lasting. To ensure a long-lasting exterior, they turned to coatings and component finishes made with Kynar 500? and Kynar Aquatec? PVDF resin.

“As a leading trade association, we wanted to make sure the building represented the roofing industry in a positive way,” said Lisa Pate, CEM, Executive Director, FRSA. “We were familiar with Kynar 500? finishes that have been trusted by architectural metal component OEMs for 50 years, so we knew it would be aesthetically pleasing and provide the durable protection we needed for our roof and gutters. Then, we were pleasantly surprised to find out that Kynar? is also a key ingredient in APV Engineered Coatings’ NeverFade? Coatings that can be used on the stucco fa?ade and applied in the field.”

Novel Emulsion Coatings Technology

NeverFade? Coatings contain Kynar Aquatec?, a water-based resin that, unlike Kynar 500?, does not need to be baked at temperatures over 375oF, making it ideal for air-dry, field-applied coatings. The premium, weather-resistant coating can be easily applied to a variety of substrates, including metals, plastics, concrete, fiber cement, stucco, EIFS and previously painted surfaces.

“The use of Kynar Aquatec? and complex inorganic pigments gives NeverFade? the ability to resist film erosion, chalking and fading caused by harsh UV exposure,” explained Erin Neff, Director of Marketing and Business Development, APV Engineered Coatings. “Degraded and faded paint is so commonly seen throughout Florida, which is one of the harshest environments in the country.”

APV backs the coating’s no-fade performance by a 15-year product-and-labor guarantee, which is transferrable to future building owners. If the coating fades by a ΔE of five or higher, APV will replace the product and cover the labor cost of re-coating. This warranty is unique to the architectural coatings industry.

“We were extremely interested in NeverFade? Coatings because every painted surface in Florida seems to turn chalky after a short period of exposure to the heat, humidity and wind-driven rain that are common here,” said Pate. “NeverFade? exceeded my expectations. We estimate that by using NeverFade?, we’ll be able to avoid three rounds of repainting, allowing FRSA to save thousands of dollars in labor costs over those 15 years.”

According to the project’s coating contractor, NeverFade? has application advantages as well: “NeverFade? is probably one of the smoothest coating systems I’ve ever used,” said Jamie Stewart of Stewart Painting in Eustis, Florida. “It brushed and rolled onto the surface easily and provided excellent coverage. Plus, it was ‘clean’ out of the bucket, unlike other coatings I’ve used that contain clumps or sediment.”

Supply Chain Puts All Hands on Deck

Michael Roberts of Lazer Manufacturing served as the heart of the project team. Lazer Manufacturing, a Miami, Florida-based master distributor of NeverFade? and other custom specialty building products, has been proud partners of the FRSA and its members for more than 30 years. The third-generation family business “takes care to do things the right way every time,” according to Roberts.

“As soon as Lisa at FRSA told us about the project, we knew we could bring together the right group of products and people who would approach the task with integrity, sincerity and plain old hard work,” said Roberts. “The project was remarkable in the way everyone in the supply chain was devoted to its success.”

Through multiple tele- and video-conferences instead of in-person visits prohibited by the COVID-19 pandemic, APV worked together with Lazer to conduct site and substrate evaluations to specify the coating chemistry needed, as well as provided guidelines for surface preparation, coating mock-ups and inspections. APV provided the colors Soft Sandstone for the stucco and Colonial White for the trim. Roberts worked closely with Jamie Stewart, who was new to NeverFade?, to make sure he and his team understood the application process.

“Our team of experts at APV are always involved at every step of every project, to ensure a high-quality installation that will last 20 years or more in the field,” Neff said.

“Watching all the components of the building come together was educational and informative,” Pate concluded. “Each of the companies involved was amazing in their support. Our new building is beautiful, functional and a first-class facility to take FRSA into our 100th year and beyond.”

NeverFade? Fa?ade Restoration Coatings Give Children’s Center a Bright and Welcoming Upgrade

Sunrise, Fla. (August 10, 2020) – A center for disadvantaged children received a fresh, welcoming new look recently thanks to an exterior restoration project using NeverFade? Fa?ade Restoration Coatings with Kynar Aquatec? from APV Engineered Coatings.

Jewish Adoption and Foster Care Options (JAFCO) provides homes, foster care, adoption, and support services to abused, neglected, and at-risk children in South Florida. When the nonprofit expanded its mission to support families raising children with developmental disabilities, it built an innovative and unique Children’s Ability Center in 2014. The bright and airy, two-story, 43,000-square-foot facility features a sweeping canopy and a fa?ade of striking colors to create a vibrant and welcoming appearance.

Jafco was newly painted with Neverfade

Sunshine State Weathering Issues

Keeping building facades in pristine condition can be difficult and expensive because most coatings rapidly degrade in the brutal humidity, high temperatures, salt air, and harsh sunlight. Designs incorporating deep, brighter-hued shades, such as the red, orange, yellow, and blue colors on the Children’s Ability Center, are especially prone to severe fading.

After only five years of exposure in the intense weather, the Children’s Ability Center showed signs of wear and tear. The colorful stucco fa?ade—originally painted with an acrylic-based coating—significantly faded, chalked, and deteriorated. With the harsh weather taking its toll on the building’s aesthetics, JAFCO turned to coating contractor Restore Construction Group for a restoration solution that would stand the test of time.

Desired Long-Lasting Protection

When selecting a restoration coating for the stucco fa?ade, the building owner’s primary goals were longevity, accurate color matching, and steadfastness of the bold color pallet. To meet these needs, the Restore Construction Group recommended upgrading from a premium acrylic latex paint to a more durable and longer-lasting fluoropolymer topcoat finish made with a PVDF emulsion and complex inorganic pigments, for extreme weatherability and color retention.

The chosen coating system (NeverFade? Fa?ade Restoration Coatings with Kynar Aquatec?) resists dirt, staining, microbiological growth, and corrosion, and it is excellent at preventing water from penetrating the surface, since PVDF is naturally hydrophobic. APV backs the product with a 15-year product-and-labor warranty against color fading.

“Due to the inconvenience and expense of repainting the building every five years, the building owner was convinced that this high-performance topcoat was the best solution for meeting their project goals,” said Norge Arnaiz, principal of the Restore Construction Group. “Additionally, the very limited 10-year warrantee that came with the originally specified acrylic paint did not cover color fading, and the product manufacturer could not precisely match the specified colors.”

Restoration Gets Underway

APV Engineered Coatings custom-color matches NeverFade? topcoats to each customer’s specification. Primers are custom-tinted as well. For JAFCO, the company matched JAFCO’s trademark deep red, orange, yellow, and blue custom color scheme. The project team then produced drawdown cards and mockups on the structure to conduct performance tests and confirmed that the finishes and colors met the high expectations of the client.

The restoration started with repairing the concrete substrate and replacing most of the PVC reveals that break the stucco into sections. The surface was then cleaned with pressure washers and coated with APV’s W-1500 primer. After the surface preparation work and primer installation was completed, the crews applied two coats of the topcoat finish using rollers and brushes per the specified film thickness.
Metal sunshades were scraped and sanded to bare metal with a wire wheel and wiped with solvent before being primed with APV’s 2K Epoxy Corrosion-Resistant Primer. Following the primer, a coat of NeverFade? Metal Restoration Topcoat was applied to specified thickness.

“The high-performance topcoat had a creamy, rich texture with excellent workability and flowability,” said Arnaiz. “The coating evenly covered the building’s stucco profile and kept a nice wet edge with no roller marks, which is a challenge in the hot, humid Florida climate.”

Colorful Aesthetic to Stand the Test of Time

The Children’s Ability Center now has a fresh and brighter new look, and the JAFCO management team is very pleased with the restored exterior and the coating’s high resistance to the harsh South Florida weather, allowing for a lengthened lifespan of the colorful stucco fa?ade.

“Our intent was to be budget-conscious while providing a long-lasting, beautiful aesthetic,” said Michael Moran, Facilities Director at JAFCO. “The high-performance coating will not only retain its vibrant colorful appeal for a very long time but also provide significant cost savings by not having to repaint the facility every five years, which is a typical coating lifecycle in Florida.”

Before: After five years in the hot Florida sun, the paint on the building’s exterior had faded, chalked and deteriorated.

After: The bold, rich color of the new coating system will stand up to years of damaging UV rays.

High-Performance, Water-Based Field-Applied Organic Finishes for Architectural Fa?ade Restoration: Sustainability Never Looked So Good

By: Ron Partridge, Sr. Account Manager Fluoropolymer Coatings NA, Arkema Inc. & Erin Neff, Director of Marketing and Business Development, APV Engineered Coatings Inc.

Based on coating technology that has been an architectural industry standard for over five decades, water-based field-applied coatings made with Kynar Aquatec? resin are helping extend the lifetime of commercial buildings in an environmentally friendly way.

Replacing building fa?ade materials can be a costly, time-consuming and disruptive endeavor. Fortunately, building owners and project specifiers now have a more efficient, cost-effective and sustainable way to extend the life of building exteriors with less disruption to tenants and activities than completely replacing fa?ade materials. To realize how, it is important to understand the history behind the coating technology that has been trusted by the architectural community for decades.

In 1965, Arkema, Inc. introduced Kynar 500? based architectural finishes to the market, and over the next 30 years they became the coating of choice for architectural firms worldwide. However, they are solvent-based, with high VOC content. In addition, because Kynar 500? emulsion-based finishes must be baked at over 400oF, they can only be applied in a factory to metal coil and extrusion substrates. This limited their ability to be used on other OEM building products that could not withstand the temperature, like wood, vinyl and fiberglass. It also did not allow for field-applied use.

Kynar Aquatec? – The next generation of PVDF coatings

In 2001, Arkema addressed these initial limitations and began to develop a novel emulsion coatings technology that became Kynar Aquatec?.

The original goals of the program were to develop a resin that could be incorporated into a coating that could air-dry with long-term weathering performance similar to a Kynar 500? finish system but in a water-based formulation that required no baking and would film-form at ambient temperatures.

These objectives and ensuing technical development work led to the 2005 commercialization of the first Kynar Aquatec? grade called Kynar Aquatec? ARC. This tough, engineered thermoplastic resin that is inherently UV-resistant found its earliest uses in coatings used in metal restoration projects and OEM building products. In 2009, Arkema launched Kynar Aquatec? FMA12 for coatings used on cementitious and other substrates where breathability and/or greater elastic properties were needed. Arkema’s most recent offering in the Kynar Aquatec? line is called Kynar Aquatec? CRX. This resin was developed for applications requiring greater hardness, abrasion resistance and chemical resistance since it can be cross-linked with a second component.

Today, Kynar Aquatec? has become an innovative platform of emulsions used by paint formulators, like APV Engineered Coatings (Arkema’s first licensee), to make premium, low-VOC, weather-resistant, water-based coatings. Coatings formulated with these emulsions can provide the durability and performance of traditional factory-applied Kynar 500? based coatings. Coatings formulated with Kynar Aquatec? can be applied in the field to a variety of substrates, including metals, plastics, wood, concrete, stucco, EIFS and previously painted surfaces. Moreover, Kynar Aquatec? resin is manufactured through an innovative and patented process that uses no PFAS surfactants or any other fluorosurfactants in its ingredients or manufacturing process.

Kynar Aquatec & Kynar 500 panels comparison

Figure 1: Nineteen years ago, a side-by-side comparison of Kynar Aquatec? to Kynar 500? finishes (using the same inorganic pigments) was conducted. No differences were found in color change, gloss or chalking for either system, demonstrating that that Kynar Aquatec? based systems can perform similarly to a Kynar 500? finish system.

Blue Test Fence Panels

Figure 2: Kynar Aquatec and Acrylic resin-based coating in outdoor weathering test in South Florida after 7 years

Highly Resistant to Film Erosion

One of the primary purposes of an exterior architectural coating is to protect a building’s substrate from weathering. A key indicator of this protection is maintenance of the original film thickness. Figure 2 demonstrates a Kynar Aquatec?-based coating’s ability to resist film erosion after outdoor exposure compared with an acrylic-based coating. Both formulations shown utilize cobalt blue pigment, which is not affected by ultraviolet light and does not block UV from penetrating the coating surface. Therefore, any degradation of the coating from weathering is related to the resin binder system only. After seven years of exposure in South Florida at 45° angle facing south, the metal panel is completely showing through the 100% acrylic-based coating, which demonstrates erosion and nearly complete degradation of the coating. The Kynar Aquatec?-based coating is still intact with minimal color fade and no film erosion.

Quality Control through Licensing

To ensure that final coatings made with Kynar? resins meet Arkema’s quality and performance requirements, the company established a licensing program for its Kynar Aquatec? family of water-based PVDF resins. Manufacturer and specialty coatings formulator APV Engineered Coatings became an Arkema licensee in 2009 for its line of NeverFade? Fa?ade Restoration Coatings, which has since been used on hundreds of architectural projects and structures worldwide.

NeverFade? Fa?ade Restoration Coatings Save Time and Money

NeverFade? is a line of water-based, low-VOC fa?ade restoration coating systems that provide the durability of factory finish in a field-applied product. Its quality ingredients and unique ingenuity provide a 30-year life cycle, unlike any other coating on the market. In addition to Kynar Aquatec? PVDF resin, NeverFade? coatings contain complex inorganic pigments, as well as additional UV blocking and mold-inhibiting additives for long-lasting durability and color retention. The unique chemistry will not chalk and erode, and it resists dirt and mold growth.

The NeverFade? Fa?ade Restoration Coating System includes topcoats and compatible primers. NeverFade? Original Topcoat is ideal for concrete, stucco, masonry, EIFS, fiber cement, composite materials and vinyl building exteriors. NeverFade? Metal Restoration Topcoat is formulated for use on ferrous and non-ferrous metal surfaces. NeverFade? 2K Performance Topcoat is used in more demanding applications requiring greater chemical resistance, hardness and abrasion resistance.

Proven Performance is Guaranteed

NeverFade? coatings provide longer-lasting color performance than premium latex/acrylic, urethanes and even FEVE exterior paint systems thanks to the unique chemistry of Kynar Aquatec? PVDF polymer and special UV inhibiting additives and specialty grade inorganic pigments.

The harsh Sonoran Desert Climate in Cave Creek, Arizona was no match for NeverFade?, which looked like it was freshly applied nine years after its original application to the Plaza at Black Mountain. The Plaza’s brown stucco exterior had faded to light grey then washed out completely after years of weathering, leaving the stucco exposed to high temperatures and harsh UV rays. In 2010, it was coated with a custom-blended NeverFade? Original Topcoat in Sahara Yellow. In October 2012, one of the tenants moved out and took down their sign, leaving the bare stucco exposed. Thanks to the long-lasting performance of NeverFade?, the contractor was able to fill in the small area where the sign had been, and it was a perfect match to the rest of the elevation and building.

Another tenant had hung a banner on the east side of the exterior of his shop after the building was freshly coated in 2010. When the tenant retired in mid-2019, the banner was removed and behind it, the area protected from the sun was identical in color and appearance to the rest of the wall. You could not identify that the banner had ever been on the building — after nine years.

APV Engineered Coatings is so confident in the long-term, fade-resistant performance of NeverFade? Fa?ade Restoration Coatings, it offers a 15-year product-and-labor guarantee. If the coating fades by a ΔE of 5 or higher, APV will replace the product and cover the labor cost of re-coating. This warranty is unique to the architectural coatings industry.

APV Engineered Coatings Finishes with Strong Sales Growth for 2019

Increased Business in Key Market Segments including Aerospace, Industrial Fabrics, and Building Products, among Others

AKRON, Ohio (February 10, 2020) – APV Engineered Coatings ended 2019 with a record sales year. The growth was fueled largely by demand for its specialty chemical products in the aerospace, flexible films and industrial textiles, architectural building products, and tire and rubber industries. The company also saw significant growth in its private label and contract manufacturing business.
“Thanks to the dedication of our 100-plus employees and the mutually-beneficial partnerships with our new and long-term customers, APV had another record sales year,” said David Venarge, Chairman, APV Engineered Coatings. “We’re positioned for similar growth in 2020 and have been on this upward trend since the mid-1980s when I purchased the company.”

APV’s Key Growth Drivers

Aerospace Industry
APV entered the aerospace industry in 2003 and has since doubled its sales revenue. This growth was due to the company’s highly specialized line of products used for turbine jet engine blades, among other applications. APV’s technical expertise and manufacturing capabilities have allowed the company to grow its aerospace products business by developing new customized and innovative solutions that meet industry and customer demands.
“APV brings a great deal of engineering expertise to the aerospace industry, and our customers trust our products for their quality and performance,” said Venarge. “In 2019, we made significant capital investments in our manufacturing equipment and facilities to ensure we can keep pace with demand that will remain robust through 2020 and beyond.”

Industrial Fabrics and Textiles
Along with aerospace, APV continued to expand product offerings in the industrial fabrics industry under its VYNGUARD? line of topcoats and finishes for woven and non-woven substrates. Examples of new custom-engineered products include super-hydrophobic coatings for clothing; extreme stain-resistant topcoats for thermoformed cabinetry, wallcoverings and contract seating; and advanced UV-resistant finishes for architectural fabrics such as military membranes, tensile structures, tents, shelters, domed roofing and tents. APV also launched a broad spectrum anti-microbial coating in 2019 for a range of applications from mattress materials to outdoor marine upholstery.
“Our custom innovations have been embraced by a wide variety of product manufacturers,” said Venarge. “I’m proud to say we are a top formulator and solutions provider of protective coatings in the industrial fabrics industry.”

Architectural Building Products
APV also continued to focus on growth opportunities in the architectural building products industry with its KAPGuard? and NeverFade? brands and achieved 31 percent year-over-year growth in 2019. The category now represents 8 percent of the company’s total sales. Venarge said he expects to see significant sales increases of these products in 2020, as manufacturers, architects, specifiers and building owners increase their demand for long-lasting, high-performance coatings.
“Our NeverFade? Fa?ade Restoration Coatings with Kynar Aquatec? were recognized by Commercial Construction and Renovation Magazine with a 2019 Project Profile Award,” added Venarge. “It was an honor to be considered as the ‘best-of-the-best’ for helping the Westin Hotel in Tampa significantly extend the life of its building exterior.”

Tire and Rubber Products and Contract Manufacturing/Private Label Services
Tire and rubber products, such as cements, identification marking inks, paints and lubricants, have been a staple product line in APV’s history and the segment continued to see steadfast growth through 2019. This was in-part due to economic factors, but also to the introduction of new and improved product formulations, including water-based technologies, and APV’s advanced equipment engineering services for manufacturers. The company continues to expand its design and installation services of custom-built equipment for tread-striping ink applications to tire manufacturers, helping to optimize and streamline their production processes.
Contract manufacturing and private label services are also a long-standing sector and driver of growth for APV, especially among Fortune 500 manufacturers in the paints and coatings industry, for whom APV is a key resource. APV’s 14-acre plant, warehouse and grounds house well over 300 pieces of manufacturing equipment including 100 to 6,000-gallon blending tanks, high-speed dissolvers, dual shaft mixers, horizontal mills, pneumatic ram mixers and more. Products can be processed with moisture and temperature controls. Specialty filling and private label packaging are offered as well. Together with tire and rubber coating products, these mature markets attributed to 3.6 percent year-over-year growth for 2019.

NeverFade? Fa?ade Restoration Coatings Installation by Stuart Dean Wins Construction Industry Award

AKRON, Ohio (5/3/2019) – An exterior restoration of the Westin Tampa Waterside Hotel using NeverFade? Fa?ade Restoration Coatings with Kynar Aquatec? was recognized by Commercial Construction and Renovation Magazine with a 2019 Project Profile Award. The award honors the “best-of-the-best” construction projects, as voted on by the magazine’s editorial board.

The restoration project, undertaken by NeverFade? Certified Applicator and fa?ade restoration experts Stuart Dean Company, provided a much-needed facelift and extended the service life of the hotel’s fa?ade by 25-30 years. It was accomplished at a much lower cost than replacing the brick fa?ade and window profiles or having to repaint the exterior every three to five years, which is a typical coating lifecycle in Florida.

“We are honored this installation of NeverFade? Coatings was recognized by Commercial Construction and Renovation,” said Michael Couchie, Vice President of Sales, APV Engineered Coatings. “It is a testament to the superior performance of our coating system, which comes with a 15-year color performance warranty. The warranty is fully transferrable to future owners and covers both replacement product and labor costs. Bottomline, with 20 years of actual outdoor weathering data, we know the product performs.

“In addition to the strong warranty and attractive appearance of the coating system, we were pleased that NeverFade? does not emit harsh solvents into the air, allowing us to not impact our guests’ experience with odors during the application period,” said Rob Willis, SVP Design & Construction, HEI Hotels & Resorts, the hotel’s owner/operator.

NeverFade? Fa?ade Restoration Coatings Win Prestigious Architectural Industry Award

AKRON, Ohio (November 21, 2018) – NeverFade? Fa?ade Restoration Coatings with Kynar Aquatec? have been recognized by Architectural Products Magazine as a 2018 Product Innovation Award (PIA) winner. The exterior coating system also earned a Special Citation for Sustainability.

The Architectural Products PIA champions product ingenuity in the building environment. Winning products and projects were chosen by a panel of 16 judges including architects, interior designers, lighting designers and veteran A/E/C writers based on their value to architects in the specification process. The judges recognized NeverFade? Coatings for its “excellent warranty and excellent life.” They also made note of the coatings as “naturally sustainable as a long-lasting paint with low VOC, allow[ing] for reduction in construction material by increasing recoat periods.”
“Our eighth edition of the award proves commercial building manufacturers are committed to, and are working arduously toward, delivering more sustainable products, as well as products that deliver better performance, life and affordability,” said Jim Crockett, Editorial Director, Architectural Products Magazine.

“We are delighted that industry experts chose NeverFade? as a worthy recipient of this prestigious award,” said Erin Brown-Neff, Director of Marketing & Business Development, APV Engineered Coatings. “NeverFade? has been used on hundreds of thousands of square feet of building exteriors worldwide. The advantages of our coating system have been most significant on commercial and industrial properties, where renovation costs can be high and restoration work is complex. NeverFade’s ability to lengthen the lifespan of such building exteriors has afforded tremendous cost savings to property owners.”

APV Engineered Coatings Partners with ARCAT? and SpecWizard? To Simplify NeverFade? Coatings Specification Process

AKRON, Ohio (9/7/2018) – Architects and engineering specifiers now have an easier, faster way to incorporate NeverFade? Fa?ade Restoration Coatings into their project specs. APV Engineered Coatings, the manufacturer of NeverFade? Coatings, has partnered with ARCAT? and its SpecWizard? program to make information about the high-performance coating system easily viewable and downloadable through a portal on the SpecWizard? website. The program is free to use, and no registration is required to use it.

With a few simple clicks, specifiers can select the appropriate primer and topcoat products, indicate how color will be determined, as well as define sheens needed for their project. SpecWizard? will then generate an accurate, job-specific, CSI 3-Part or Canadian CSC formatted construction product specification in MS-Word or other word processing format. The portal also provides additional product information and lets specifiers send requests to APV through a secure message function.

“Specification is a critical part of planning for a restoration project and sometimes the most time-consuming,” said Erin Brown-Neff, Director of Marketing & Business Development, APV Engineered Coatings. “Using ARCAT’s SpecWizard will help architects and engineering specifiers through this process in a more cost- and time-efficient manner. We are delighted to support the AEC community with this new resource.”
